That was the mantra of Fred Karno: acrobat, comedian, writer, music hall impresario, film producer and undisputed king of slapstick. Karno discovered and trained the early twentieth century's greatest comedians. Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel, Will Hay, Max Miller and the Crazy Gang amongst. David Crump's book reveals Karno's huge contribution to comedy and popular culture - an impact which still resonates today. Come along and let the author tell you the remarkable story of the man behind the myth. After a short interval, this will be followed by a showing of Charlie Chaplin's first full length feature film, The Kid. The lovable tramp is left to raise an orphan he's rescued from the streets. Bringing laughter and a few tears, The Kid still remains one of Chaplin's most loved films, and, marked him out as a serious filmmaker. Sunday 11:00 am - 1:00 pm")
